“…AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST”
Charlene was a young pretty lady. She was pretty to the extent she didn’t need to apply make up to supplement herself. Not only was she pretty, she was also very smart. When you call science gurus in her class, she was number one. Her life was like a fairy tale; her family was very wealthy and everyone wished to be her. All these didn’t last for long as her father lost his job and after sometime, they became an average family (according to social strata). From an average family, they became very poor- her parents barely had enough to feed her and her four siblings. Soon, she left her school and joined the community high school. As if that wasn’t enough, her mum also lost her job, the only thing that brought food to their table. Time to write SAT examinations came and Charlene wasn’t able to register due to lack of money. People that envied her before looked down on her and that made her really sad. She became hopeless to the extent that she resolved to committing suicide.
Weeks passed and days too. Time to kill herself came. She tried to do it, but was stopped by her mum. She started lamenting and complaining about how life has treated her. “Mum, our lives were OK until when dad lost his job. I thought we would be alright, but now, your job is gone. Now, I can’t go to college again. What’s the point of life? I’m fed up, honestly. Can't my life just be the way it used to be? Why are all these happening to us, please?” Charlene lamemted. “Don’t worry my daughter, all will be well. Just surrender your life to God and everything will be alright”, those were the words of advice her mum gave her before leaving her room.
Sometimes life seem frustrating and funny to us. You can imagine one being mocked by his acquaintances or neighbours because of a deficiency he has or even maybe because he can’t afford something. Imagine finding yourself in a situation that you can’t even understand yourself or what’s going on in the environment. Imagine severely failing an examination or being labelled a failure. Imagine being in a situation where it seems all hope is gone… God feels your pain even if no one is can. He cares for you and he wishes to have an intimacy with you. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”, Matthew 11:28. Today, Jesus Christ invites each and every one to come to him in order to gain rest. Accept him into your life today and you would encounter rest.
Christ is our life. Only him can give us that peace we desire even when it seems like things are not going well. Thank you so much for this.
