You are worth more

After graduation,I started doubting my worth and importance. I wondered what was my value apart from my undergraduate degree. I mean, some situations I faced made me question who I am and what I am apart from a graduate. Of course I could write very well and create different contents, but I wasn’t really appreciated, at least not by others. I can remember instances when people questioned my intelligence and sense of reasoning. Despite getting encouragement from some friends I have, there are still set of people who derived joy in criticizing me and everything I did- my choice of words, my reaction to things and even people I talked to. I started wondering the relationship I had with these people and why they could have the audacity to think they can dictate how I lived my life.     They would literarily debunk me and make me feel bad about myself and the funny part is that I took my time to explain myself to them. I know I’m a good person and someone valuable, but yet I still ...

What made you stop?

For a long time, I’ve taken a break from this blog. Not because I don’t have content ideas or I’m not consistent enough. As a matter of fact, I’ve had a number of things to write about since my last published article, but I couldn’t bring myself to it.   Why then have I not published for so long? What is the problem? It is you, my dear reader who has discouraged me. Not with your comments, but your lack of engagement. For each article I publish on this blog, I share the link with about 100 people on my contact list and the views from posts isn’t encouraging. I can recall getting a total of 40 views from the last two articles I published and to be honest, it’s discouraging. It’s discouraging because I in so much effort to publish and the outcome does not help matters. I need to know what the problem is. Does my writing bore you? Am I a bad writer? Or are you too occupied to read?   The joy of every writer is for her work to be read and appreciated. So, I’m appealing to y...

Tit for tat?

Have you ever been in a situation where someone treats you like trash? I don’t mean a one time thing. I’m talking about a constant habit. This person has no regard for you, your emotions, your well-being and everything that has to do with you. To the person, it’s like you’re a nobody and your viewpoints have no worth. To be honest, it’s not surprising and it necessarily isn’t your fault that the person behaves the way he/she does. You try as much as possible to be a good person that you are, only to be treated like crap. You wonder why the person can’t reciprocate the kindness you show but your thoughts do not count because they can’t influence the person’s nature. Neglected and hurt, you wonder what can be done to change the way things are. Sometimes, you may even contemplate on dancing to the tunes of the person in question, but to be honest, that is not the best way to resolve things. What then do you do when you’re in this situation? Do you keep on being nice? Do you give up ...

True Love Story

Two days ago, I went out for CDs and an appointment with a doctor. In case you don’t know what CDs is, it is a Community Development Service Corp members involve in weekly and mine is usually on Wednesdays. I remember I carried my book and pen( if you know me very well, I never go out without these two) and used my pen to write attendance for CDs in my NYSC Local Government. After using the pen, I dropped it back in my bag (or so I thought) and left the office. I did not want to lose the pen, but that was in vain. Few hours later, I got home and wanted to write and suddenly discovered my pen was gone. I was so sure I returned it to my bag after using it, but it was nowhere to be found. I became agitated because I cherished that pen so much. I’d rather my glasses gets missing than my pen so you could imagine. I left what I was doing and began to look for the pen. It was so sad that I couldn’t see the pen or use it anymore.  I know what you’re thinking. “Why not buy another pe...

Unsaid words

You know how it feels when you have so many things going on in your life with no one to share them with? It can really be tiring and frustrating because you take so much in, tolerate a lot, endure and suffer many hardships all on your own.  It almost    feels  like you’re carrying the whole world on your shoulders and  at this point the end can't come any  sooner. You feel so hurt and wounded inside and you prefer to keep it that way because your silence is loud enough. Having these   feelings   cloud   your thinking may   be disheartenin g  but in a weird way  satisfying. I mean, it’s not like anyone would really care about you or what you’re going through because everyone has his/her own burdens. So why bother another person with yours when you can feel it yourself? You may be surprised but that’s how I’ ve been feeling for a while now. I’ve been feeling alone despite the fact that I do have friends and acquaintance...

Perseverance

Some weeks ago, I was given an official assignment. I was asked to make some research on some things for a client. It was quite easy- or so I thought. My boss directed me on some things to do that would make my work easier and I really thought I could conduct the research in little time.   Surprisingly, two days passed and I had not gotten anything yet. I was so disappointed in myself and I had to reach out to my elder sister (that girl is a darling) on the failed research process and she encouraged me and gave me word of advice. That really struck me. I was so glad to find out that someone believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Of course, that faith she had in me made me yield to the advice and made me strive till I got the intended outcome.  Sometimes in life, we may not get the expected outcome we need when we need it. That should not stop us from trying or making further attempts. It could really hurt and disappoint that we don’t have what we need yet. But ...

Consistently Inconsistent

I’m sure you’re wondering why I gave this article the title, but as a matter of fact, that has been the summary of my life lately. I mean, since my final year in school (or even before then), I became nonchallant about some things I once considered vital in my life. Suddenly, I didn’t feel moved to do all those important things I used to do. Not because they were bad, they weren’t. I mean, I considered them vital for my self development. So, why did I stop doing those things? I had no idea either.   Once upon a time, I made a conscious effort to post on this blog but that changed. I thought my academics came first and I didn’t need distraction. That was actually an excuse for the laziness I developed because I always found myself writing other contents, seeing movies when I was supposed to combat distractions. To be honest, a part of me was missing-one I loved a lot but I was too blind to see that. The truth is this: if you don’t make daily conscious efforts to get things do...
